Single-phase EI lamination sheets (or EI cores) serve as the magnetic core of a transformer. They are constructed from high-permeability silicon steel to efficiently direct and strengthen magnetic flux, enabling electromagnetic induction.
Key functions and structural reasons include:
Magnetic Flux Guidance: Offers a low-reluctance (low-magnetic-resistance) path to concentrate and direct the magnetic field generated by the primary winding to the secondary winding.
Energy Transfer via Mutual Induction: Converts electrical energy into a magnetic field in the primary coil, which then induces a voltage in the secondary coil to step up or step down voltage levels.
Eddy Current Reduction: Stacking individual insulated thin sheets (instead of using a solid iron block) drastically restricts eddy current paths, minimizing power loss and overheating.
Ease of Assembly & Cost-Effectiveness: Interlocking the “E” and “I” shapes around bobbin windings simplifies automated manufacturing while minimizing air gaps at the joints.
